CREDIT CARD Transaction Fee

This fee of 2.75% of your gift amount applies to all gift transactions by credit card, and goes towards the charges made by Barclays Merchant Services and Protx which enable us to accept credit card transactions from you. This ensures that every penny of your contribution goes towards the couple.

This is necessary because of the way The Bottom Drawer works. We are not like John Lewis for example, where they supply the goods directly to the couple getting married, and selling items to the couple for typically 50% more than John Lewis paid for those items - hence able to take the charges imposed by the card companies within the price they charge.

The Bottom Drawer allows couples to receive contributions to any type of gift which they can buy from anywhere. Typically we don't sell those items to the couple ourselves, simply operate the gift list service on the couples behalf. Whilst we may receive a small admin fee from the couple to run this service, that is often our only source of income. However, as the charges imposed on us by the credit card companies could potentially come to far more than the income we receive from the couple, if we don't charge to cover those costs we would lose money on almost every list service we provided - which of course is no use to anyone! Hence we charge an amount just sufficient to cover those charges - as well as provide you with the option to send a cheque or pay by debit card which avoids those charges altogether.

If you take a look at other alternative, flexible gift list services like The Bottom Drawer you will find we are the best value available - others charge up to 9% extra on guests purchases and don't offer you the option to pay by cheque or debit card at zero surcharge! We think we offer the fairest options to all, couple and guests.

Of course, if you prefer to avoid this small transaction charge just select to pay by debit card or pay offline and send us a cheque instead!
